Who Is Fighting Your Battle?

Have you ever tried to solve your problems when you knew that you really couldn’t solve them even with your greatest effort? Our tendency is to find a way to cause everything to work out the way we want it to be resolved with all of our personal human resources. Maybe your spirit knew that only God could solve this but your mind wouldn’t let it go still attempting to work it out on your own.

King Jehoshaphat could have relied on his powerful army and all of his resources to go into battle. Everyone would believe that was the right thing to do. But, the Spirit of the Lord came upon the son of Zechariah–Jahaziel and delivered a message to all of Jerusalem and the King. “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s “(2 Chronicles 20:15). Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord!

Even though we know God is in charge many times we still try to solve the issues of life that we have no power to resolve. God’s plan and His will are more important than our desires. Many times I want God to solve something but I know in my spirit that He has all the facts, knowledge, and perfect judgment that I don’t contain. At this point, trust in God is the real issue. Trusting God means that we want what God wants! Believing God and accepting His perfect will doesn’t mean things will turn out the way we want—it means that we can have contentment with how God is choosing to reveal Himself to us.

God caused the enemies of Jerusalem to destroy one another to the point that none of them survived. When God fights your battle, He is complete in victory. When we try to solve the battle, things get messed up and we don’t experience things from God’s original plan.

In our day, we would have hired the best lawyers, went to the finest defenders of Christianity, and petitioned the government to keep Jesus from being crucified. But the result, if successful, would be eternal damnation for all! Our perspective is so often short-sighted. We need to rely on the long-range planner—God Himself! He is the Alpha and the Omega, He knows the beginning and the end!

Yes, there are times when we must take action and do what we know must be done the way we know God wants us to respond. But, there are other times when we really don’t know what to do and that is when we must be still and see the salvation of God worked out in and through our lives.
