About The Laity Care Center

The cure for your counseling burden…
In our day, there is a great need for repentance and return to biblical truth. Founded by Dr. Kerry Skinner, Laity Care Centers are biblical counseling centers that are operated by lay volunteers as a ministry of your church: Ephesians 4:16 (New King James Version) …from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. People being born again and joining the church!
There are LCC’s that counsel families and individuals every week in states like Alabama, Connecticut, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas. The LCC is totally operated by lay volunteers who are trained as biblical counselors, receptionists, and a director. It has also lifted the great pastoral burden of counseling and developed healthy and solid disciples to carry out the Great Commission. Simple, easy, and lives are being changed…
Beginning a LCC is a very rewarding and exciting adventure for your church. Your church members are empowered with tools like the Heart of the Problem Workbook, The Spirit -filled vs. Sin-filled Chart, and other resources. We provide what you need to get started…at no cost:
We provide all of the necessary graphics and documents for download…forms, business cards and brochures for getting started…at no cost to the church. Incredible Testimonies…

Jesus said, ”Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” I see this happen every week in the LCC at Cottage Hill Baptist Church.

As a lay-member of Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama and Biblical Counselor at the LCC, I can tell you first hand of the change that has taken place in my life, in my family, and the people I meet as a result of what I learned through Biblical Counselor Training. Laity Care helped me first…but then helped me know how to help others. Now I am confident and share Jesus with others, invite them to church, and see them become born again. God used His Word at the LCC to teach and equip me to do the work of the ministry!

History

Dr. Henry Brandt, a psychologist for 30 years, was a man before his time. After seeing thousands of patients in his counseling office, he realized that the best counsel he could give was the counsel from God’s Word. Christian leaders, including Bill Bright and Gary Smalley, saw Dr. Brandt as the father of modern day biblical counseling. In the early 1990’s Dr. Brandt and Dr. Kerry Skinner began a project to help Christian individuals experience personal revival.
What they discovered would revolutionize the way that Christian’s view dealing with the problems of life. That project began as a workbook that has literally changed thousands of lives across the globe. The Heart of the Problem Workbook began in one individual church and was used as a discipleship course. As testimonies of freedom through repentance began to arise, the message of biblical repentance, taught through the Heart of the Problem Workbook, began to make it’s way into pastoral and biblical counseling settings. Dr. Brandt who has now gone to be with his Lord and Dr. Kerry Skinner, began to speak on the topic of biblical counseling and repentance in conferences throughout North America. In the late 1990’s, organizations such as Prison Fellowship sought Dr. Skinner as a consultant to also teach prisoners how they could use God’s word to experience change in their lives. Dr. Skinner began to envision a ministry that could be used by every local church and would be a place for people who were dealing with difficult life issues to find a real cure.  In answer to his prayer, God began to use Dr. Skinner, in a mighty way, to develop that ministry. In 2004, at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, Al, a biblical counseling center was born called the Laity Care Center. This became a place where the lay-members of the church were trained to take God’s Word and use it to help the rest of the body. It now see’s over 1200 people per year through no cost appointments. The Heart of the Problem Workbook has been translated into 6 languages and is the key resource used to train biblical counselors. It is also used as the counseling assignment where, week after week, lay-members of churches throughout the U.S. teach others about biblical repentance and walking in the Spirit. If you are facing challenging circumstances in your life and you are anxious, frustrated, worried, and even angry at times, you can call your problems what the world calls them. For the believer, you can even find temporary relief using the world’s methods…but it’s not a cure. Jesus didn’t come to help us manage sin problems he came to get rid of them and if the problem is sin it’s the easiest thing in the world for God to cure. When the Bible speaks about repentance it is referring to God’s people returning to him more often than it speaks of repentance leading to salvation. Repentance is the most positive word in the Bible and it is the foundation of the Christian life. Without it we cannot have fellowship with God. If we are ever going to experience real revival it will have to begin with the house of God as we learn the true meaning of biblical repentance.
